Planning for the Perfect Thanksgiving Feast

Cooking Times for the Star of the Show

As Thanksgiving approaches and families gather to celebrate, the centerpiece of the meal—the turkey—takes center stage. Ensuring that the turkey is cooked to perfection can be a daunting task, but with these guidelines, you can serve a juicy and flavorful bird that will be the highlight of your feast.

Firstly, it's crucial to remember that cooking times vary depending on the size and shape of the turkey. For a standard-sized turkey at a temperature of 325 degrees Fahrenheit, plan on cooking for approximately 15 to 17 minutes per pound. However, keep in mind that these times are approximate and may need to be adjusted slightly.

To ensure accuracy, the best time to check the turkey's temperature is about 30 minutes before the estimated cooking time is complete. Insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh, avoiding bones. The turkey is cooked when the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit in both the thigh and the thickest part of the breast.

It's important to note that our cooking times are based on a normal shape and size turkey. If your turkey is larger or smaller, you may need to adjust the cooking time accordingly. Additionally, consider factors such as the temperature of your oven and the amount of stuffing in the turkey, as these can affect the cooking time.
